We plan to arrive by 9:45am at Tintern Abbey in Wales!  We will enjoy a rather novel tour of the truly beautiful ruins and then have some free time to explore ourselves.  Tintern was a popular subject for artists and writers including Mr Turner.  Maybe you will make time for some sketching? Tintern is a place of true peace and beauty and is considered the first Cistercian house in Wales, famous for its miraculous statue of the Virgin Mary.

We will move on by coach to our final stop at Painswick Rococo Gardens.  This is a landscape garden formed between 1720 and 1760 when Rococo was at its height. This period was the transition from the old formal style towards the ‘English Landscape Garden’.  The garden is formed around a valley and has many features, vistas and garden buildings.  There are slopes up and down but many benches have been thoughtfully provided.  The entrance to the garden is near the top of the valley and there is a beautiful vista with seating.

First, we will enjoy a salad bowl quiche lunch with tea or coffee. Then we will head off to the garden with a guide to hear about the history of this special place.  This will be followed by a chance to examine the garden and plants at our own pace.

There are plants and vegetables for sale and the café will be open for further refreshments should you choose. We will leave at 4:30 pm.

Cost : £42.50 p.p. includes coach, gratuity, entrance and lunch.
