We last visited this property in 2006 to see the much-loved home of Benjamin Disraeli and which reflects his vibrant personality, his climb up the “greasy pole” of politics and his close personal relationship with Queen Victoria. In 1941, Hughenden was taken over by the Air Ministry as a top-secret map-making base during World War II, the significance of which has only recently come to light.

We start the day with morning refreshments and an introductory talk on Disraeli and Hughenden, following which members can visit the House and Gardens on a free-flowing basis.

‘Operation Hillside’ – half hour talks and tour about Hughenden’s role during World War II commence at 12.45 pm and 3 pm respectively. There is also a ‘Gardens Talk and Tour’ which commences at 2.15 pm and there is a chance to find out about the formal gardens designed by Mary-Anne Disraeli.

Lunch (not included in cost of visit) can be taken at members’ convenience in the Victorian stable-yard café.

Cost : £20.00 pp including morning refreshments, coach hire and gratuity to driver. Excludes lunch and afternoon refreshments.

Please add £2.00 to your cheque if parking at Newbury Rugby Club.
