I am pleased to report a major and exciting new development, a sponsorship agreement with the Newbury Building Society towards our lecture costs for 2011, which will enable us to contribute even more to local National Trust properties.  It was negotiated on our behalf by Keith Spires.  As you see, the Building Society’s logo appears on this Newsletter and our lecture notices, and their literature will be present on our publicity table at lectures.

Starting with this issue, The Greenham Common Trust has kindly agreed to publish our Newsletter and Programme Card.  This means that Dick Morris will no longer do the relevant printing and I wish to thank him, on your behalf, for his sterling work over the years.

We are receiving an excellent service from New Greenham Arts at our new lecture venue.  It would be helpful for us to learn whether you agree.  If you have an opinion on our lecture venue, please contact me by email or telephone.  We would also like to put in touch those members who may have problems with transport to lectures, with those who would be willing to give a lift on a regular basis.  If you either need or can offer transport, please tell June Hearsey who will put you in mutual contact.

My term of office as Chairman expires at the AGM in March 2012, and at the same time the positions of Membership Secretary, Lecture Organiser, and Newsletter Editor will also become vacant.  It is not too early to plan for successors to these positions, which are interesting and not too onerous.  I will be happy to explain what is involved with being Chairman or Lecture Organiser, without any implied commitment on the part of the enquirer.  Similarly, June Hearsey will be glad to describe the job of Membership Secretary and Ian Hopper that of Newsletter Editor.

We are also glad to welcome onto the Committee any members who would like to help us with running this successful Association.

Our web site has been transferred by Valerie Jackson to its new location  I hope you agree that it provides an excellent shop window for us.

Please may I remind you to take care always to supply a stamped addressed envelope when one is requested, and to complete your full address on application slips.  It would also be much appreciated if 2011 subscriptions could be paid promptly, to save us the cost and effort of reminder letters.  Thank you for your co-operation in these matters.

I should also mention that the publicity table is the responsibility of Keith Spires as Publicity Officer, and material can only be placed on it with his agreement.

I hope that you enjoy our varied and full 2011 programme which is announced in this Newsletter and look forward to your continued support.  I also take this opportunity to wish members A Happy and Peaceful 2011.
