Chairman’s Notes

We have now settled into our new meeting venue at St George the Martyr on the Andover Road and have invested in a new 8ft screen. If you have not been able to come along to one of our monthly meetings the next one will be on Monday 9th September when Carl Portman will give a talk on “Spiders and the Rainforest”. Non-members and friends are welcome to come along for a small entrance fee of £3.

The annual coffee morning took place on Thursday 14th March at St Nicolas Church Hall, Newbury.

Thank you to Colleen and her team for organising this very important Event, and thank you to all the volunteers and contributors. We made a record £302.51. Next year’s date is Thursday 12th March 2020.

At the AGM on the 11th March members voted to donate £5000 to the following properties for their educational projects:

£1000 to Winchester City Mill
£1000 to The Vyne, Basingstoke
£1000 to Cliveden, Taplow
£1000 to Chedworth Roman Villa

It was also agreed that members should vote, by a show of hands, to select a property to receive an additional £1000 for one of the following projects:

Cliveden:    Renovating a Canoe formerly owned by Lady Astor

Mottisfont:  Improve the education room for children and improving facilities for special needs

The winner by a large majority was Mottisfont. Thank you to Sylvia Knight for researching and organising our first Members

Spaces are still available on many of the day trips. Please contact the organiser if you would like to make a booking, and just a reminder that non-members and friends are very welcome.

May I wish you a very enjoyable summer break, and I look forward to meeting you again at one
of our Talks or on a Day Trip.
